Peace

This time,
This place,
This season abounds
With this five letter benediction.
This is our Advent commonality,
We use it as our catch word,
Our, "don't repeat happy holidays" word,
Our cram the season into one short grunt
Word.
Our actions do not reflect peace.
Our coming and going,
To-ing and fro-ing,
Moving along our Christmas list nightmare
Does not reflect peace.
This time,
This place,
This season
Is the moment of revelation;
The opening of the castle doors.
Here, amid the din of the battle,
Amid the spark-like clash of sharpened swords,
Amid the cries of cancer, death, and lost love,
Amid the rising divorce rates, the rapists, the murderers
And the greedy American bankers.
Here,
In this time,
In this place,
In this season,
Peace is Born,
Christ is Born.

  1. A Libran who lists night time and God as interests drew my attention.Christmas does have a special significance for a few of us amidst this secular souless society where 'Seasons Greetings' is pc and any mention of Christmas or the birth of Christ is seen now as unacceptable.
    'Away in a manger
    No crib for a bed
    The little Lord Jesus
    Lay down his sweet head'

Merry Christmas and may God bless you!

  2. Ahh... this is so powerful and, sadly, true. I say this as I prepare for what public schools now call mid-winter break.

Love these lines...and your sentiment. Peace on earth, good will towards men (and women :o))

  5. Yes, we are immersed in secularism, but Advent is still important to many of us. Recently watched a Michael Buble Christmas Special that was completely freed of the meaning of the season as many of us still envision it. Why can't we make room for every avenue of religious belief? But Jesus did predict persecution. I wonder if he knew it would take the form of political correctness...that isn't really even politically correct. God bless you and Merry Christmas.

  7. I enjoyed this... a nice dynamic swinging through the lines. It's very easy to identify with this one.. in fact I've written on a similar theme (Chestnut-Stuffed Albatross). Somehow we haven't got it right.

  8. Christmas is supposed to be a time of joy and merriment, even to an unbeliever like me. Sadly the words here do not convey that message, more the opposite if anything.
    Still a fascinating read though.
